ISSUE 3 of the new Coventry Speedway programme, The Buzz, celebrates one of the most important anniversaries in club history.
The publication date of Monday June 22 is exactly 45 years to the day since Brandon Stadium was packed to the rafters for Nigel Boocock’s Testimonial meeting.
Boocock is regarded by many as the Bees’ greatest-ever rider, and his benefit event attracted a reported crowd of around 25,000.
Nigel sadly passed away in 2015 but his legacy lives on, and we are delighted to re-print both his own programme column and that of promoter Charles Ochiltree for that special occasion.
Elsewhere in The Buzz, American star Rick Miller reflects on his successful Coventry career, culminating in his own memorable Testimonial event in 1992.
We also put forward two contenders for the accolade of ‘Brandon’s Strangest Races’ as well as taking a detailed look back at the 1999 Elite League season.
And our present-day Campaign update focuses on the issues which have become apparent whenever talk of a new stadium has surfaced – whist we still battle against the outrageous, forced closure of Brandon.
