TWO of the most prominent figures in the glittering past of Coventry Speedway feature in Issue 4 of The Buzz magazine (out on July 20).
Danish great Ole Olsen led the Bees to two British League titles in both 1978 and 1979, and his recollections of the winner-takes-all ’79 decider against Hull at Brandon are included here.
Mick Bell was a member of that team, before going on to manage the club for nearly a decade, including title wins in both 1987 and 1988.
Bell has given a fascinating, extensive interview to The Buzz looking back on his time at the helm – including the challenges of taking charge of the star-studded personalities in the side, and also his memories of the controversial Fours Final at Peterborough in 1991 after which he walked away from the job.
We also go back to the original National League days for a 1963 clash between the Bees and Oxford in Programme Vault, and review the 2000 Elite League season in depth – a year in which Bees secured silverware against all the odds.
Plus the latest from the Nuneaton Speedway Supporters’ Club, another fiendish Brandon Quiz, and an update on the stadium Campaign – where after many months of no apparent movement, some further news should be forthcoming over the coming weeks.
We would like to thank everyone who has supported the early issues of the magazine and enabled it to continue on a monthly basis.
