This would, of course, be a prelude to the Grand Final between the clubs in the autumn, but at the time the Bees were fighting to ensure they secured a place in the play-offs.
They had made a dreadful start to the season, losing five of their first six matches, but a strong run of form in the early part of the summer had lifted them to third place in the table, six points behind Poole and two behind the Aces.
However, with sides outside the top four having matches in hand, there was certainly little scope for error as they prepared to face a powerful visiting side who had already won twice at Brandon earlier in the season.
And Bees were still to resolve the issue of Andreas Jonsson's departure, operating rider-replacement for the Swede at No.1 as they attempted to bring in a new signing. Meanwhile Joonas Kylmakorpi was now settling into the side after his controversial move from Peterborough to replace the injured Rory Schlein.
Belle Vue were led by reigning World Champion Jason Crump and also included rising stars Kenneth Bjerre and Simon Stead, as well as former Bees rider Andy Smith.
