STADIUM owners Brandon Estates were due to stand trial next week (October 11) in a case brought about by Rugby Borough Council.
This concerns repeated breaches of a Community Protection Notice with specific reference to events which took place in 2019.
The date for the trial was set around six months ago following a number of case management hearings. However, we regret to inform the public that the trial has once again been adjourned and is now unlikely to take place before the end of the year, with a definite date still awaited.
This will come as a major disappointment to local residents especially, as the focus should be firmly on the impact they have suffered, and continue to suffer, as a result of the breaches of the CPN.
That impact, which is now far worse than even the period under consideration in 2019 due to the total withdrawal of any security measures by the owners, is now unfortunately set to continue into the New Year.
It was also anticipated that the latest planning application submitted on behalf of Brandon Estates would be taken to committee during this month.
Once again, this will now not be the case, although this is less of a surprise as responses are required to several objections made by statutory consultees to the planning documentation.
It is little surprise that the latest submission appears to be just as unwelcome as the original from 2018, largely because it fails to satisfactorily address any of the issues raised in the first place, and merely repeats numerous untruths along with introducing new statements presenting a similarly inaccurate and misleading picture.
In addition, the application is based on a misinterpretation of the National Planning Policy Framework on the part of the applicants.
We will continue to keep everyone updated as soon as we have more information on when these events are likely to take place.
In the meantime, having been working extensively on matters relating to the owners’ planning application, we have turned our attention back to our own vision for the future at Brandon.
We thank everyone for the responses we received via the consultation process during the summer and are currently in the process of making minor revisions to accommodate some of the excellent suggestions made before making the plans more widely available.
Today (Friday October 8) marks exactly five years since the last speedway meeting at Brandon, with the final stock car event just under a month later.
The following five years have brought nothing but misery to local residents and followers of those sports as a direct result of Brandon Estates closing a fully operational stadium and evicting the two sports, both of which had full intentions of continuing there – a fact totally contradicted by the current planning application.
We have had two further meetings with senior Council officials in recent weeks, and they are fully aware that our resolve is as strong as ever that these sports must be allowed to return.
